Advocacy
As defined by Wikipedia – Advocacy in all its forms seeks to ensure that people, particularly those who are most vulnerable in society, are able to: Have their voice heard on issues that are important to them. Depend and safeguard their rights. Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives.
Types of Advocacy that The Arc Mesa County, Inc provides:
- Individual Direct Advocacy: One on One working with children, adults, and parents, supporting them to address educational, insurance, publicly funded services, employment and housing issues.
- Community Outreach: Through educational presentations and community events, The Arc Mesa County opens hearts and minds to create communities that embrace people with all ABILITIES.
- Advocacy Education: We provide education for families and self-advocates to empower people with disabilities and their families to advocate for themselves.
- Legislative and Systemic Advocacy: The Arc Mesa County, Inc. is one of 14 chapters in Colorado working to influence public policy to support people with disabilities. The Arc has an active presence in Washington D.C. and the Colorado Capitol.
